beach bound

Summer is finally here! This amazing season is usually all about relaxing by the beach or pool (at least that’s how you always envision it.) But summer can actually be a little bit stressful.

Hosting out-of-town visitors, entertaining a big crowd for a picnic, driving the kids to all of their summer activities, organizing and packing for vacation, increased drinking and eating unhealthy food, too hot for outdoor workouts and you’re away from your routine. Sound familiar?

We’ve learned (the hard way) that we can eat all the healthy foods and take all the supplements, but that won’t have much of a positive effect if we can’t find a way to manage stress.

The perfect summer is about freedom. How about we start with “stress-free”? Here are the stress release methods I find really effective.

Reiki

reiki

Your body wants to heal itself and relieve stress, but sometimes it needs some help!

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing that activates the body’s subtle energy systems to remove blocks. The reiki healer’s job is to move your energy where it may be stuck. Breaking through these blocks, stimulates the body’s inherent ability to heal itself.

Biomagnetism

Many complex diseases, including cancer, are associated with changes in pH level in internal organs. Biomagnetic therapy uses pairs of magnets to restore the body’s pH balance. Biomagnetic therapy benefits include neutralizing your body’s pH (making it a bad environment for pathogens), energizing cells, and targeting the root of pain and disease, not just the symptoms.

Meditation

This is probably one of the more accessible forms of stress relief, and one that I practice almost daily, at least for a few minutes. Meditation has many forms, and you can meditate anywhere, from you desk at work to cooking in your kitchen. Focus on your breath and try to clear your mind. Easier said than done, but it because second nature if you’re consistent. Meditation has been proven to reduce stress, so find some time during your day to try it. Acupuncture

Some people are freaked out by the idea of acupuncture and needles, but don’t be! Acupuncture uses hair-thin needles inserted into specific points around the body to free blockages in energy, or “qi.” Acupuncture restores the flow of your qi, balances the body’s energy, stimulates healing, and promotes relaxation. It doesn’t hurt at ALL (promise!) and it’s a great way to relieve summertime stress.

Reflexology

Reflexology uses pressure on the feet and hands using specific finger techniques. Basically, the idea is that stimulating each of these pressure points will produce effects on another area of the body. Like biomagnetism and acupuncture, reflexology works to restore the body’s balance of energy, clear any blockages, and stimulate healing and reduce stress.

Exercise

Exercise releases endorphins, which contribute to happiness and stress relief. Make time in your day to go for a walk or a run, head to the gym at lunch time when trhe sun’s rays are too strong for sitting out anyway, or find a workout on YouTube to follow along with in your home or hotel room. Turns out the “healthy body, healthy mind” adage is right on. Get in the habit of summer fitness and it’ll be hard to quit come fall.

Here’s to a stress-free summer!
