Goji Berries:

Goji berries is both a fruit and an herb and an excellent source of antioxidants. They are loaded with beta-carotene that promotes healthy skin. They are also high in fiber that contributes to regular bowel movements. There are claims that it is a remedy for diabetes, hypertension, malaria and fever. You can eat them raw or soak them before eating. I eat these plain or mixed with cashews. They are also a nice addition to any smoothie.

Maca is rich in B vitamins, C and E. It provides calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids. But its biggest claim to fame is helping with decreased libido because of its aphrodiasic properties. Studies have shown that it can increase sperm count and improve fertility, as well as restore hormonal balance. Studies also show that it is highly effective with menopausal discomfort. I add this too my smoothies.

Spirulina:

This is a type of blue-green algae that is a concentrated source of protein, vitamins, iodine and antioxidants. It is one of the best known sources of gamma linolenic acid (GLA), a fatty acid that supports heart health and joints. The protein is highly digestible because it does not have cellulose walls. In addition, it can enhance your immune system. Reduce inflammation abd fight chronic disease. I sprinkle this on a salad or sautéed mixed vegetables.

They are high in fiber so it improves bowel function. Women need about 25 grams of fiber per day and men need 38 grams per day. I throw a tablespoon into my smoothies or sprinkle on a salad.
